Southern Plaza is a Christian retirement community in Bethany offering assisted living and memory care, adjacent to its independent living community for easy transitions and family visits. Its philosophy "is based on the belief that each resident is entitled to the highest quality of life through wellness services that work to promote independence, healthful lifestyle, dignity, and a sense of security," with "personalized services tailored to meet the specific needs of each resident" in "a luxurious carefree environment." A long-standing management team is known for personal familiarity with residents and families -- "They know us by name and even know our families" -- and a registered nurse consultant supports a specially trained team providing 24-hour assistance.
Care includes bathing, dressing, grooming, and walking assistance, medication assistance, and incontinence support, with three meals daily plus snacks and special-diet accommodations. Memory care follows a "best friends approach," where staff called "friends" help residents "find joy, purpose and connection in their everyday lives" through activities like baking, snacks, and walks in the secured courtyard. Amenities include a beauty shop, game room, event center, landscaped and secure courtyards with seating, transportation to shopping, churches, and medical appointments, WiFi throughout, basic cable, and a FEMA-rated storm shelter. Apartments feature walk-in showers with a bench, well-lit spacious closets, and a refrigerator with freezer.
