About

Saint Katharine Drexel Retirement Center in El Reno is an assisted living community sponsored by the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, with 65 individual rooms, 16 of which are in a specialized care unit. Its faith-based social model emphasizes assistance over dependence: "Our role is not to 'do for,' but to 'assist with' each resident's identified needs," prioritizing "individualized care of needs as well as activities and programs for groups." Personalized care plans are developed through team collaboration involving residents, families, and staff, with 24-hour trained staff access. The community promotes "maintenance free living" with no buy-in fees or endowments, month-to-month leasing, and a flexible 30-day notice so residents maintain financial control.

Care includes bathing, dressing, and grooming assistance, medication management, and health-status reviews, with three daily restaurant-style meals plus snacks, weekly laundry and housekeeping, and on-site beauty and barber services. Residents enjoy social, educational, spiritual, recreational, and exercise programs, planned monthly outings, and free local transportation to medical appointments plus scheduled group outings for shopping, dining, and recreation. Common spaces include a library with a fireplace, a family kitchen and dining area, billiards, a piano, an exercise area, and enclosed landscaped courtyards. Private apartments come in four floor plans (Faith, Hope, Love, Wisdom) with kitchenettes, private bathrooms with grab bars, and individually controlled HVAC.

OSP RatingOSP ExcellentHow we rate: the OSP Rating is built from this community’s Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) survey history — weighing how recent, how frequent, and how serious the state’s inspection findings are. (Assisted living has no federal star rating, so we base it on the state’s public survey record.)

Excellenta consistently clean state inspection history — one of the strongest records in Oklahoma.

Based on Oklahoma state (OSDH) survey history — assisted living and memory care have no federal star rating.

What state inspectors found

2 inspections in the last two years · 2 with no deficiencies cited

Both Oklahoma State Department of Health inspections of St Katharine Drexel in the last two years ended with no deficiencies cited — including the full relicensure survey in November 2025, which also folded in two complaint investigations. During an earlier unannounced visit prompted by a complaint about residents being isolated, the surveyor toured the building and found residents clean, appropriately dressed and free of odors, watched staff helping residents with daily care, and specifically noted staff treating residents with dignity and respect. That complaint did not result in a single citation. Nothing in the state's records from this period shows a cited problem.

  • During an unannounced visit, the surveyor walked the building and found residents clean, dressed appropriately, and free of odors. 10-02-2024
  • The inspector watched staff helping residents with everyday personal care, and saw them treat residents with dignity and respect. 10-02-2024
  • Hallways and resident rooms were found clear of clutter and obstructions — a basic safety point that matters for anyone using a walker or wheelchair. 10-02-2024

  • A complaint alleging that residents were being involuntarily secluded was investigated on-site, including resident and staff interviews and a review of incident reports, and the state cited nothing. 10-02-2024

What the state also noted

  • The 2024 complaint investigation report describes what the surveyor observed and reviewed but does not state in words whether the seclusion allegation was substantiated; the accompanying state form confirms no deficiencies were cited.
  • These records cover only the last 24 months of state surveys and do not reflect day-to-day conditions between inspections.
